Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Heavy Rainfall, Large Hailstones And Damaging Winds

for parts of Wollondilly/Wingecarribee area.

Severe thunderstorm west of Picton.

HEAVY RAINFALL, LARGE HAILSTONES and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Wollondilly/Wingecarribee
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:05 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, large hailstones and damaging winds was detected near the Nattai National Park and the Nattai Tablelands. This thunderstorm is slow moving. It is forecast to affect High Range by 5:05 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains, Northern Tablelands and parts of the Northern Rivers, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and South Coast districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:10 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

for Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains, Northern Tablelands and parts of Northern Rivers, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and South Coast Forecast Districts.

Severe thunderstorms continuing to develop over eastern and northern parts of the state this afternoon.

Weather Situation
An upper-level low located over the central New South Wales coast combines with rich moisture and unstable conditions to generate thunderstorms over central and northeastern parts of the state. Thunderstorms are expected to continue through the afternoon and into the evening.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL, LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce heavy, locally INTENSE RAINFALL that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding, large, possibly GIANT HAILSTONES and damaging wind gusts over the next several hours in the Mid North Coast, North West Slopes and Plains, Northern Tablelands and parts of the Northern Rivers districts. Locations which may be affected include Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Armidale, Tamworth and Moree.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, large hailstones and damaging wind gusts over the next several hours in parts of the Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and South Coast districts. Locations which may be affected include Bowral, Katoomba, Capertee, Oberon, Taralga and Nerriga.
59.6 mm was recorded in the 30min to 2:50 pm at Yarras (Mt Seaview).
38.0 mm was recorded in 1 hour to 10:25 am at Merriwa.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.

* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
