for Heavy Rainfall
for parts of Greater Newcastle and Maitland/Cessnock areas.

HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Maitland/Cessnock and Greater Newcastle
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:05 am, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Charlestown and Boolaroo. These thunderstorms are moving towards the northwest. They are forecast to affect Cardiff by 12:35 am and West Wallsend, Stockton and Mulbring by 1:05 am.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Hunter district.
The next warning is due to be issued by 1:10 am.
