Initial Flood Warning For The Nicholson And Gregory Rivers
Issued at 08:27 AM EST on Monday 10 February 2025
Flood Warning Number: 1
MINOR TO MODERATE FLOODING OCCURRING ALONG THE NICHOLSON AND GREGORY RIVERS
Heavy rainfall over the past several days has cause river level rises and minor to moderate flooding along the Gilbert River. A peak has just passed Riversleigh and is now approaching Gregory Downs, where moderate flooding is estimated to be occurring.
At this stage, river levels at Burketown Airstrip are likely to remain below the minor flood level (5.00 metres).
Further showers and storms are forecast across the catchment over the next few days, which may cause renewed river level rises and prolonged flooding. This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary.
Nicholson and Gregory Rivers:
Moderate flooding is occurring at Riversleigh and is estimated to be occurring at Lawn Hill and Gregory Downs. Minor flooding is estimated to be occurring at Doomadgee and Escott Station.
Flood Safety Advice:
Remember: If it's flooded, forget it. For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.}
