MAJOR FLOODING LIKELY AT TAEMAS AND AT SELLHEIM DURING FRIDAY EVENING
MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT INKERMAN BRIDGE OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY
Heavy rainfall observed since 9am Thursday has resulted in river level rises along the Burdekin, Cape, Belyando and Suttor Rivers.
River level rises are occurring along the Cape River, where major flooding is likely at Taemas from Friday evening. River level rises are also occurring along the Belyando and Suttor Rivers, where moderate flooding is likely at St Anns during Friday evening.
River level rises are occurring along the Burdekin River where moderate to major flooding is likely from Friday evening at Sellheim, Burdekin Dam, Dalbeg, Clare and Inkerman Bridge.
Further rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over the next few days. A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.

Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Moderate flooding is likely along the Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Suttor River at St Anns is currently at 6.40 metres and rising, with minor flooding.
The Suttor River at St Anns is likely to reach the moderate flood level (6.50 m) Friday evening. Further rises are likely with the arrival of upstream flow.

Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding is likely along the Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Cape River at Taemas is currently at 7.36 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
The river level is likely to reach the major flood level (8.00 m) Friday evening. Further rises are possible with the arrival of upstream flow.

Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding is likely along the Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Burdekin River at Sellheim is currently at 14.70 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
The Burdekin River at Sellheim is likely to reach the major flood level (15.00 m) Friday evening. The river level may reach around 15.50 metres overnight Friday into Saturday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Burdekin River at Burdekin Dam is currently at 4.68 metres and rising, with minor flooding.
The Burdekin River at Burdekin Dam is likely to reach the moderate flood level (5.50 m) overnight Friday into Saturday. Further rises are possible with the arrival of upstream flow.

Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding may occur along the Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Burdekin River at Dalbeg is currently at 15.38 metres and rising, above the moderate flood level (15.00 m).
The Burdekin River at Dalbeg is likely to reach around 17.00 metres overnight Friday into Saturday, with moderate flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Burdekin River at Clare is currently at 12.70 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (9.00 m).
The Burdekin River at Clare is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (13.00 m) Friday evening. The river level is likely to reach around 14.00 metres overnight Friday into Saturday, with moderate flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge is currently at 10.13 metres and steady, above the moderate flood level (10.00 m).
The Burdekin River at Inkerman Bridge is likely to reach around 11.00 metres Saturday morning with moderate flooding. The river level may reach the major flood level (12.00 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday.

for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall possible between Tully and Ayr tonight and over the weekend.

Weather Situation
Significant rainfall may develop over the weekend about the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the Cassowary Coast, with a monsoon trough in place, rich tropical moisture and onshore flow expected to strengthen. Enhanced rainfall due to widespread showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms is possible from tonight and throughout the weekend, with extremely wet soils and river catchments leading to a higher than normal vulnerability to flash flooding.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the North Tropical Coast this weekend. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 140 to 200 mm are possible. Isolated 24-hourly rainfall totals up to 250 mm are possible. Rainfall is expected to increase from late tonight, with isolated heavy falls possible through the remainder of the weekend, before easing during Monday morning.
Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
A Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current for parts of northeastern Queensland. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for more information.
Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Ayr, Giru and Lucinda.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

RENEWED MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GAIRLOCH, INGHAM PUMP STATION, ABERGOWRIE BRIDGE AND GLENEAGLE
Heavy rainfall has been observed across the Herbert River catchment over the last few days, particularly over the lower reaches of the catchment. Further rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Friday and into the weekend.
Minor to moderate flooding continues along the Herbert River. Renewed river level rises and areas of minor to major flooding are possible along the Herbert River with forecast rainfall.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.

Herbert River to Nash's Crossing:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Herbert River to Nash's Crossing.
No recent observations are available for the Herbert River at Gleneagle, however, based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level at Gleneagle is expected to be above the minor flood level (4.50 m).
The Herbert River at Gleneagle is likely to remain above the minor flood level overnight Friday into Saturday. Further areas of heavy rainfall are forecast overnight Friday and into the weekend, which may cause renewed rises and moderate flooding across this weekend.

Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing:
Moderate to major flooding may occur along the Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing.
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is currently at 7.40 metres and steady, above the minor flood level (6.00 m).
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is likely to remain above the minor flood level overnight Friday into Saturday. Further areas of heavy rainfall are forecast overnight Friday and into the weekend, which may cause renewed rises and moderate flooding across this weekend.

The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station (Alert gauge) is currently at 8.94 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (10.00 m).
Further areas of heavy rainfall are forecast overnight Friday and into the weekend, which may cause renewed rises and minor flooding overnight Friday into Saturday and moderate flooding across this weekend.

The Herbert River at Gairloch (Alert gauge) is currently at 8.54 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (9.50 m).

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLY OCCURRING AT MURRAY FLATS
RENEWED MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT EURAMO SATURDAY WITH FORECAST RAINFALL
Significant rainfall totals have resulted in river level rises across the Tully and Murray River catchments. Minor flooding is occurring along the Tully River with renewed rises to the moderate flood level possible during Saturday. Major flooding may be occurring in the Murray River.
Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days, which may cause renewed or prolonged flooding depending on the location of the heaviest falls.
This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary.

Tully River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Tully River.
The Tully River at Euramo is currently at 7.05 metres and slowly falling, above the minor flood level (6.00 m).
Renewed rises to the moderate flood level (8.00 m) are possible along the Tully River at Euramo during Saturday, with forecast rainfall.

Murray River:
Major flooding is possibly occurring along the Murray River.
There are no observations for the Murray River at Murray Flats, however, based on upstream gauges, it is possible that the river level is around the major flood level (8.00 m).
The Murray River at Murray Flats may remain around the major flood level (8.00 m) during Saturday.

Flooding in North Queensland catchments during December 2023 damaged high priority river gauges that support the Bureau of Meteorology to provide high accuracy flood forecasts. While river gauges are being repaired, the Bureau will continue to issue flood watches and warnings for these catchments using the best available data.
