Minor Flood Warning For The Johnstone River Catchment

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MCAVOY BRIDGE AND MOURILYAN MILL OVERNIGHT MONDAY INTO TUESDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Johnstone catchment since Thursday evening, causing rapid river level rises and isolated minor flooding from late Sunday morning along both the North and South Johnstone Rivers.
A below minor flood peak was observed along the North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge Sunday afternoon. Renewed river level rises are likely along the Johnstone River catchment with forecast rainfall where minor flooding is possible along the North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge and along the South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill overnight Monday into Tuesday.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the next few days, which is likely to cause further river level rises and flooding.
The situation is being monitored closely and this warning will be updated as required.

North Johnstone:
Minor flooding may occur along the North Johnstone.
The North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge is currently at 1.65 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (5.00 m).
The North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge may reach the minor flood level (5.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday with forecast rainfall

South Johnstone:
Minor flooding may occur along the South Johnstone.
The South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill is currently at 1.32 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (8.00 m).
The South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill may reach the minor flood level (8.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday with forecast rainfall.

Flooding in North Queensland catchments during December 2023 damaged high priority river gauges that support the Bureau of Meteorology to provide high accuracy flood forecasts. While river gauges are being repaired, the Bureau will continue to issue flood watches and warnings for these catchments using the best available data

RENEWED MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT PEETS BRIDGE FROM MONDAY EVENING
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GORDONVALE FROM OVERNIGHT MONDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Mulgrave and Russell catchments since Thursday evening, causing river level rises and minor flooding across both catchments.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Monday and into next week, which is likely to cause renewed river level rises and flooding along the Mulgrave and Russell Rivers from Monday evening.
The situation is being monitored closely and this warning will be updated as required.

Mulgrave River:
Minor flooding may occur along the Mulgrave River.
The Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge peaked at 5.59 metres around 05:15 pm Sunday and is currently at 3.95 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (5.00 m).
With forecast rainfall renewed river level rises are likely along the Mulgrave River at Peets Bridge from Monday afternoon and the river may reach the minor flood level (5.00 m) Monday evening. Higher levels are possible.

The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale is currently at 10.55 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (12.00 m).
The Mulgrave River at Gordonvale may reach the minor flood level (12.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday, with forecast rainfall. Higher levels are possible.

Russell River:
Elevated river levels and areas of minor flooding are occurring along the Russell River. Further river level rises and areas of flooding are possible with forecast rainfall.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT EURAMO FROM MONDAY EVENING
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Tully River catchment since Thursday evening. Minor flooding is occurring along the Tully River at Euramo.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of Monday and the next few days, which is likely to cause further river level rises along the Tully River, and Euramo may reach the moderate flood level from Monday evening.
The situation is being monitored closely and this warning will be updated as required.

Tully River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Tully River.
The Tully River at Euramo is currently at 7.75 metres and steady, above the minor flood level (6.00 m).
The Tully River at Euramo may reach the moderate flood level (8.00 m) Monday evening with forecast rainfall. Further river level rises are possible.
