Minor Flood Warning For The Johnstone River Catchment

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MCAVOY BRIDGE AND MOURILYAN MILL OVERNIGHT MONDAY INTO TUESDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Johnstone catchment since Thursday evening, causing rapid river level rises and isolated minor flooding from late Sunday morning along both the North and South Johnstone Rivers.
A below minor flood peak was observed along the North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge Sunday afternoon. Renewed river level rises are likely along the Johnstone River catchment with forecast rainfall where minor flooding is possible along the North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge and along the South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill overnight Monday into Tuesday.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the next few days, which is likely to cause further river level rises and flooding.
The situation is being monitored closely and this warning will be updated as required.
North Johnstone:
Minor flooding may occur along the North Johnstone.
The North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge is currently at 1.65 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (5.00 m).
The North Johnstone River at McAvoy Bridge may reach the minor flood level (5.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday with forecast rainfall
South Johnstone:
Minor flooding may occur along the South Johnstone.
The South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill is currently at 1.32 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (8.00 m).
The South Johnstone River at Mourilyan Mill may reach the minor flood level (8.00 m) overnight Monday into Tuesday with forecast rainfall.

Flooding in North Queensland catchments during December 2023 damaged high priority river gauges that support the Bureau of Meteorology to provide high accuracy flood forecasts. While river gauges are being repaired, the Bureau will continue to issue flood watches and warnings for these catchments using the best available data
