Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall
for Central West and parts of Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall continues over interior parts of the state.
Weather Situation
A deep surface trough with an embedded low pressure system is situated over the west of the state. This has combined with a very moist tropical airmass to produce heavy rainfall. Areas of scattered rain, heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue over western and central parts of the state into Wednesday.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely to continue through the warning area during the rest of Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm are likely, with isolated falls of up to 80 mm possible. 24-hourly rainfall totals of between 70 to 110 mm are likely, with isolated totals of up to 150 mm possible.
Heavy rainfall is forecast to become more isolated later during Wednesday.

Locations which may be affected include Charleville, Longreach, Winton, Quilpie, Windorah and Isisford.

152mm recorded at Jundah
114mm recorded at Quilpie
109mm recorded at Windorah Airport
102mm recorded at Winbin Creek
100mm recorded at South Comongin
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT RICHMOND FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT CLONCURRY
Moderate to locally heavy rainfall has been observed in parts of the Flinders and Cloncurry Rivers. This rainfall has resulted in river and creek level rises, and minor flooding at Richmond, where moderate flooding is possible from Wednesday afternoon.
Further areas of widespread rainfall with locally heavy totals are forecast to continue for the next few days, which is likely to result in further river and creek level rises along the Flinders and Cloncurry Rivers.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy rainfall for parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Flinders River to Richmond:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Flinders River to Richmond.
There are no current observations for the Flinders River at Richmond, however based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level (5.00 m) and rising.
The Flinders River at Richmond may reach the moderate flood level (6.00 m) from Wednesday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Flinders River downstream of Richmond:
River and creek level rises are likely occurring along the lower Flinders River.
Cloncurry River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Cloncurry River.
The Cloncurry River at Cloncurry is currently at 3.30 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (3.00 m).
The Cloncurry River at Cloncurry may reach around 4.50 metres overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with minor flooding. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WINDORAH FROM WEDNESDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall observed since Sunday across the lower parts of the Thomson and Barcoo Rivers, and along Cooper Creek has caused significant river level rises. Moderate flooding is occurring at Retreat where major flooding is likely Tuesday evening. Major flooding is expected at Jundah. Moderate flooding is also possible at Stonehenge and Windorah.

The Thomson River at Stonehenge may reach the moderate flood level (3.00 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Thomson River at Jundah is expected to reach the major flood level (5.00 m) Tuesday evening. The river level may reach around 5.50 metres overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:
Major flooding is possible along the Barcoo River downstream of Isisford.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 7.04 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
The Barcoo River at Retreat may reach the major flood level (8.00 m) Tuesday evening. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Cooper Creek:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Cooper Creek.
There are no current observations available for the Cooper Creek at Windorah, however based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level and rising.
The Cooper Ck at Windorah (Main Channel) TM may reach the moderate flood level (4.57 m) during Wednesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG THE WESTERN RIVER AT WINTON FROM TUESDAY EVENING. WITH FORECAST RAINFALL FURTHER RISES ARE POSSIBLE
MINOR FLOODING NO LONGER LIKELY ALONG THE DIAMANTINA RIVER AT BIRDSVILLE
Moderate to heavy rainfall over the last several days has caused river level rises across the Diamantina and Western River, and nearby creeks. Minor flooding is likely at Winton from Tuesday afternoon with moderate flooding possible from Tuesday evening.
Elevated river levels continue around Birdsville, however minor flooding is no longer likely. The situation will be closely monitored as upstream floodwaters arrive in the coming weeks and the flood warning will be updated as required.
Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms are forecast for the next few days.
A Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall is current for the Central West and parts of the Northern Goldfield and Upper Flinders, North West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. The river level is currently at 5.45 metres and rising, which is around 3.35 metres above the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 m).
Western River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Western River.
The Western River at Winton is currently 1.25 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (1.50 m).
The Western River at Winton is likely to exceed the minor flood level (1.50 m) Tuesday afternoon and may reach the moderate flood level (2.00 m) from Tuesday evening. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Flooding is no longer likely along the Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville is currently at 2.80 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (4.00 m).
The Diamantina River at Birdsville is likely to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m). Small renewed river level rises are possible with the forecast rainfall. Further renewed river level rises are expected in the coming weeks as upstream flood waters arrive.

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT ABERGOWRIE BRIDGE AND HALIFAX FROM TUESDAY EVENING
Moderate to heavy rainfall has been observed across the Herbert River catchment since Saturday evening, particularly in the lower reaches of the catchment. This rainfall has resulted in river and creek level rises in lower parts the catchment.
Further showers and storms are forecast for the remainder of Tuesday and into Wednesday, which may cause further river level rises along the Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing. River levels at Abergowrie Bridge and Halifax may reach the minor flood level from Tuesday evening.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Minor flooding may occur along the Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing.
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is currently at 3.35 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (6.00 m).
