Major Flood Warning For The Flinders Rivers

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WALKERS BEND FROM FRIDAY
NEAR MAJOR FLOOD PEAK ESTIMATED TO HAVE OCCURRED AT RICHMOND MONDAY AFTERNOON
Moderate is occurring at along the Flinders River at Richmond, where the river level is estimated to have peaked near the major flood level on Monday afternoon. As this floodwater and the water from Cloncurry River extend downstream, minor flooding is likely at Walkers Bend from Wednesday morning, with moderate flooding possible from Wednesday afternoon. Major flooding is possible at Walkers Bend from Friday.
Further showers are forecast across the Flinders River catchment during the next few days, which may cause further river and creek level rises and prolonged flooding.
This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as required.

Flinders River to Richmond:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Flinders River to Richmond.
The Flinders River is estimated to have peaked Monday afternoon 10 February, near the major flood level (8.00 m). As of 9:00 am Tuesday morning, the Flinders River at Richmond was at 7.47 metres and falling, above the moderate flood level (6.00 metres).
The Flinders River at Richmond is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (6.00 m) during Tuesday and Wednesday.

Flinders River downstream of Richmond:
Major flooding is possible along the Flinders River downstream of Richmond.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is currently at 2.83 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (5.00 metres).
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is likely to exceed the minor flood level (5.00 m) Wednesday morning. The river level may exceed the moderate flood level (5.30 m) Wednesday afternoon and may reach the major flood level (8.00 m) during Friday into Saturday.

MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING ALONG THE NICHOLSON AND GREGORY RIVERS
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BURKETOWN AIRSTRIP FRIDAY
Heavy rainfall over the past several days has caused river level rises and minor flooding along the Gregory River. A moderate peak has passed Gregory Downs Tuesday morning, with river levels falling and minor flooding occurring.
Minor flooding is possible along the Albert River at Burketown Airstrip at the end of the week.
Further showers are forecast across the catchment over the next few days, which may cause renewed river level rises and prolonged flooding. This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary.

Nicholson and Gregory Rivers:
Minor flooding is occurring at Gregory Downs and estimated to be occurring at Doomadgee and Escott Station.
No recent observations are available for Burketown on the Albert River. However the river level is estimated to be below the minor flood level (5.00 m).
The Albert River at Burketown Airstrip may reach the minor flood level (5.00 m) around Friday.

MINOR FLOODING CONTINUING AT WINTON
Heavy rainfall over the last several days has caused river level rises across the upper Diamantina River catchment.
Minor flooding is occurring along the Western River at Winton, with minor to moderate flooding occurring along the Diamantina River.
Showers and storms are possible in the upper Diamantina River catchment for the next few days, which may cause renewed river level rises.
The situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as necessary.
Predictions for downstream locations will be provided as upstream peaks are observed.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
Minor flooding is continuing along the Diamantina River at Elderslie. Further downstream, moderate flooding is continuing at Diamantina Lakes, with the river level currently at 4.10 metres and steady, which is 2.00 metres above the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 metres).
Western River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Western River.
As of 9:30 am Tuesday, the Western River at Winton was at 1.80 metres, and falling with minor flooding.
The Western River at Winton is expected to remain above the minor flood level (1.50 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Further rises are possible as upstream floodwaters arrive.
