Moderate Flood Warning For The Ross And Bohle Rivers And Flood Warning For The Black River And Bluewater Creek
Issued at 03:54 PM EST on Thursday 06 February 2025
Flood Warning Number: 26
"Re-issued to update the warning severity metadata"
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE WITH FORECAST RAINFALL FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS ACROSS THE ROSS RIVER AND BOHLE RIVER CATCHMENTS
No further significant rainfall has been recorded since 9am Thursday across the greater Townsville area. However, there remains a very high chance of further thunderstorms and heavy rainfall areas overnight Thursday into Friday and across the weekend.
River and creek levels continue to slowly ease, with minor flooding easing along the Ross River and the Bohle River. River levels are similarly slowly easing across the Black River and Bluewater Creek catchments. However whilst catchments remain wet from recent prolonged rainfall, any further rainfall is expected to result in rapid rises and lead to a return of more significant flooding across the Townsville area.
As advised by Townsville City Council, Ross River Dam will see controlled releases through the spillway. This will contribute to flows downstream in the Ross River.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.
Ross River:
Moderate flooding is likely along the Ross River.
The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 1.31 metres and steady, above the minor flood level (1.10 metres).
The Ross River at Aplin Weir is likely to remain above the minor flood level (1.10 metres) into Friday. Further areas of heavy rainfall are forecast into the weekend, which is likely to cause renewed rises and moderate flooding across this weekend.
Bohle River:
River levels have peaked and are easing along the Bohle River on Thursday afternoon.
The Bohle River at Mt Bohle peaked at 5.51 metres around midday Thursday 06 February, and is currently at 4.96 metres and falling, above the minor flood level (4.00 metres).
The Bohle River at Mt Bohle may remain above the minor flood level (4.00 metres) into Friday. Further areas of heavy rainfall are forecast into the weekend, which is likely to cause renewed rises and moderate flooding across this weekend.
Black River and Bluewater Creek:
River and creek levels across the Black River and Bluewater Creek catchments continue to slowly ease, with stream levels currently easing below minor flood levels. Further renewed rises are likely over the next few days, with forecast rainfall.
Flood Safety Advice:
Remember: If it's flooded, forget it. For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.}
