Weather Warnings
Tue 5:54pm UTC Flood warning QLDTue 4:46pm UTC Severe weather advice QLDAustralian Government Bureau of Meteorology
Queensland
TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy Rainfall
for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
Issued at 4:46 pm Tuesday, 11 February 2025.
Heavy rainfall is possible over the northeast coast this evening, easing late tonight.
Weather Situation
A low inland from Ingham embedded in the monsoon trough continues to move slowly east, forecast to cross the Townsville and Cassowary coasts this evening. Enhanced rainfall due to showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms is possible over northeastern Queensland for the remainder of today before drier air moves into the area overnight tonight. Extremely wet soils and river catchments are leading to higher than normal vulnerability to flash flooding.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is still possible in showers and thunderstorms for coastal and inland parts between Ayr and Tully for the remainder of this evening, more likely over the Cassowary and Townsville coasts. Isolated six-hourly rainfall totals between 100 to 150 mm are possible. Isolated 24-hourly rainfall totals up to 200 mm are possible, mainly between Townsville and Cardwell.
Rainfall is then forecast to ease across the warning area later tonight as the low moves into the Coral Sea.
Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
A Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current for parts of Queensland. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for more information.
Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Ayr, Giru and Lucinda.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Central Coast and Whitsundays districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Central Coast and Whitsundays,Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Tuesday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.Tue 4:46pm UTC Severe weather advice QLDAustralian Government Bureau of Meteorology
