for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Channel Country Forecast District.

Heavy rainfall possible in the far west.

Weather Situation
Heavy showers and thunderstorms are being driven on surface troughs in the Channel Country in a very moist tropical airmass. Heavy rainfall is possible with slow moving cells.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Channel Country
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Birdsville.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:05 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Initial Flood Warning For The Diamantina River

RIVER LEVEL IS AT THE DIAMANTINA LAKES CAUSEWAY
Rainfall over the last several days has caused river level rises across the upper Diamantina River catchment. Minor flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. River levels are likely to remain elevated over the next few days.
Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms are forecast for the next few days.
A flood watch, which includes the Diamantina River is current for parts of Lake Eyre Basin Rivers and Gulf of Carpentaria Rivers.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. The river level is currently at 2.10 metres and rising, which is at the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 m).

FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN PARTS OF BARKLY, GEORGINA RIVER AND EYRE CREEK, SIMPSON DESERT CATCHMENTS

A broad trough is slow-moving over central parts of the NT, creating a build up of moisture across central and southern districts.
Catchments in the Flood Watch area are relatively dry.
Daily scattered rainfall totals of 40 - 80 mm are possible on Sunday and Monday, with isolated falls of more than 100 mm across the Flood Watch area.
Some roads, and possibly primary and secondary highways may be affected with accumulated rainfall over the next few days. Some communities and homesteads may become isolated. Check road conditions before travelling.

Barkly
Simpson Desert
Georgina River and Eyre Creek

Flood Watch For Parts Of Lake Eyre Basin Rivers And Gulf Of Carpentaria Rivers In Queensland

MINOR FLOODING LIKELY ACROSS PARTS OF THE FLOOD WATCH AREA FROM EARLY NEXT WEEK, WITH MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE LATER

Widespread areas of rain with locally heavy falls are forecast to develop across northwest and western Queensland during Sunday before continuing into the next week. Heavy rainfall may spread further east across the state during the next week.
Catchments within the Flood Watch area are relatively dry.
Widespread rainfall totals for the remainder of Sunday are likely to be between 35-55 mm in the Flood Watch area, with isolated totals up to 90 mm possible. During Monday and Tuesday, daily widespread rainfall totals of 50-90 mm are forecast for the Flood Watch area, with isolated totals up to 150 mm possible.
River level rises and minor flooding is likely across parts of the Flood Watch area early next week, with moderate flooding possible from later in the week as floodwaters extend slowly through these large catchments.
Elevated river levels and localised flooding are likely to result in disruption to transport ROUTES and the isolation of some communities.
