Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
Furneaux Islands, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and southeasterly winds are expected during Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include the Midlands, East Coast and South East forecast districts and parts of the Furneaux Islands and Upper Derwent Valley forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EST Sunday.

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MAURICETON DURING SUNDAY BASED ON FORECAST RAINFALL
Minor flooding is possible along the Jordan River at Mauriceton during Sunday based on forecast rainfall.
In the 24 hours to 6:00 am Sunday, rainfall totals up to 15 mm have been recorded in the Jordan River catchment. Widespread rainfall totals of 20-40 mm are forecast for the remainder of Sunday.

Jordan River:
Minor flooding may occur along the Jordan River.

No readings are currently available for The Jordan River at Mauriceton. The last reading was 0.30 metres and steady at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 13.
The Jordan River at Mauriceton may exceed the minor flood level (0.90 m) from Sunday afternoon.

Initial Minor Flood Warning For The Huon River

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG THE HUON RIVER DURING SUNDAY BASED ON FORECAST RAINFALL
Minor flooding is likely to develop along the Huon River around Tahune Bridge from Sunday afternoon based on forecast rainfall. Flooding may extend downstream to Judbury and Huonville Sunday evening.
In the 24 hours to 6 am Sunday, rainfall totals of 10-30 mm were recorded in the Huon River Catchment. Widespread rainfall totals of 20-30 mm, with potential higher falls up to 60 mm are forecast for the remainder of Sunday.

Huon River above Tahune:
River level rises are likely along the Huon River at Harrisons Opening during Sunday.
Picton River:
Strong river rises are likely along the Picton River during Sunday.
Huon River - Tahune to Judbury:
Minor flooding is likely along the Huon River - Tahune to Judbury.
The Huon River at Tahune Bridge is currently at 0.45 metres and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Huon River at Tahune Bridge is likely to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) Sunday afternoon based on forecast rainfall.

The Huon River at Judbury is currently at 0.76 metres and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Huon River at Judbury may reach the minor flood level (4.00 m) Sunday evening based on forecast rainfall.

Huon River around Huonville:
Minor flooding may occur along the Huon River around Huonville.
The Huon River at Huonville is currently at 1.45 metres and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Huon River at Huonville may reach the minor flood level (3.00 m) Sunday evening based on forecast rainfall.

Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast and parts of Western, North East, Midlands and Central North Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:06 am Sunday, 14 August 2022.

Heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts are expected over eastern and southern Tasmania today.

Weather Situation
A deep low pressure system located just to the northeast of Tasmania is causing widespread rainfall, strong southeasterly winds with damaging wind gusts over eastern and southern Tasmania. The low is expected to remain slow moving, while weakening slightly during Monday, before moving away to the east on Tuesday.
DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, Central North and Midlands
Moderate to HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are expected about northeastern Tasmania this morning, extending to eastern and southern areas during the day. There is an increased risk of localised heavy rainfall from late today into Monday.
Rainfall totals of 50 to 70 mm are likely in the 24 hours up to midnight tonight, with isolated falls up to 150 mm possible about elevated terrain. 6 hour rainfall accumulations may reach 80 mm about elevated terrain and eastern slopes.
Strong southeasterly winds averaging 40 to 50 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 80 km/h are possible about eastern and southern parts of Tasmania, particularly about the exposed coastal areas and high terrain. These winds are expected to contract to the southeast areas in the afternoon and ease during the evening.

Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, New Norfolk, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.

Macquarie Island 89 km/h at 03:13am
Cape Bruny 82 km/h at 03:02am
Hartz Mountains 72 km/h at 01:07am
Maria Island 72 km/h at 03:00am
Larapuna 72 km/h at 01:31am
Mount Wellington 70 km/h at 02:46am

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Clear drains and gutters on premises prior to severe weather arriving.
* Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
