Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for Furneaux Islands and parts of King Island, North East, East Coast, Central North and North West Coast Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:30 am Sunday, 13 July 2025.
Damaging winds about King Island and northeastern Tasmania this afternoon and early evening.
Weather Situation
A strong cold front will pass over Tasmania today bringing with it a vigorous northwesterly flow over King Island and northeastern parts of the state during the afternoon and early evening.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
King Island, Furneaux Islands, North East, East Coast, North West Coast and Central North
For parts of the NORTH COAST, KING ISLAND and FURNEAUX ISLANDS: DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts up to 100 km/h are likely from the early afternoon.
Over ELEVATED INLAND parts of the NORTH EAST and EAST COAST: Strong northwesterly winds with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 100 km/h are possible during Sunday afternoon and early evening.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds this evening.
Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Currie, Whitemark, Bridport, Fingal and George Town.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Sunday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
