for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES
for parts of South East, Central North, Upper Derwent Valley and East Coast Forecast Districts.
Issued at 4:16 pm Tuesday, 24 June 2025.
Abnormally High Tides for Tasmania
Weather Situation
A cold front will cross Tasmania later this evening, followed by a deep low moving to the south. The low is then expected to move eastward into the Tasman Sea on Wednesday. Strong to gale-force northwesterly winds will shift southwesterly during Wednesday morning, leading to elevated sea levels from this evening.
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for the following areas:
Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast and Central North
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES may lead to sea water flooding of low-lying coastal areas between Southport and the Tasman Peninsula, including locations along the Derwent River, and the Tamar River. Tides are likely to rise WELL ABOVE the normal high tide mark during this evening's high tide for these locations.
Tides are again expected to rise ABOVE the normal high tide mark Wednesday evening for coastal areas between Southport and the Tasman peninsula, including the Derwent River.
A separate Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS is also current. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/warnings/
Locations which may be affected include Launceston, New Norfolk, Hobart, Dover and Dodges Ferry.
