Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds And Heavy Rainfall
for Western, East Coast, Central Plateau and parts of Upper Derwent Valley, South East and North East Forecast Districts.

A cold front will bring heavy rain and damaging wind gusts to parts of the state overnight and during Sunday morning.
Weather Situation
A cold front approaches from the west late this evening and will move over the state during early Sunday morning. A broad rain band associated with the front will bring a period of heavy rain to western and central parts of the state, while vigorous winds aloft also bring a risk of damaging wind gusts to elevated areas. The risk of damaging wind gusts is also expected to develop over parts of the east during early Sunday morning.
DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast and Central Plateau
For WESTERN and CENTRAL parts of the state: HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely to develop from late this evening and persist into Sunday, before easing by mid-morning. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 30 to 50 mm are likely, with isolated areas of 65 mm possible.
Strong winds averaging around 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of up to 110 km/h are possible over elevated terrain through this area during the later part of this evening and early Sunday morning.
Damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall is expected to ease in western and central parts by mid-morning on Sunday.
For parts of the EAST COAST and NORTH EAST DISTRICTS: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of up to 110 km/h are likely to develop during the early hours on Sunday morning, particularly about elevated terrain and their immediate lee slopes.
Winds are likely to ease below warning thresholds in the east by late Sunday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Swansea, Fingal, Queenstown, Strathgordon, Zeehan and Tarraleah.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Clear drains and gutters on premises prior to severe weather arriving.
* Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEDT Sunday.
