Initial Minor Flood Warning For The Avon River

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT STRATFORD MONDAY AFTERNOON
Minor flooding may develop along the Avon River at Stratford during Monday afternoon with the combination of upstream flows and forecast rainfall.
Widespread rainfall totals of 60 to 160 mm have been recorded across the Avon River catchment in the 48 hours to 9:00 am Monday. Further periods of heavy rainfall are possible across the catchment during Monday.
A severe weather warning is current for heavy rainfall for East Gippsland and parts of West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts
Avon River:
Minor flooding may occur along the Avon River.
The Avon River at Stratford is currently at 1.23 metres and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Avon River at Stratford may reach the minor flood level (4.50 m) Monday afternoon.
Flood Safety Advice:
SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
Never allow children to play in floodwater,
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain,
Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.}
