Major Flood Warning For The Latrobe River

MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING IN THE MOE RIVER AT DARNUM
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE IN THE LATROBE RIVER AT THOMS BRIDGE MONDAY AFTERNOON
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE IN THE LATROBE RIVER AT ROSEDALE DURING TUESDAY
River level rises have been observed and major flooding has developed along the Moe River. Minor flooding is likely to develop at Thoms Bridge during Monday afternoon. Minor flooding may develop along the Latrobe River at Rosedale during Tuesday.
In the 24 hours to 10:00am Monday, rainfall totals of up to 70 mm have been recorded in the Latrobe River catchment. Further widespread rainfall totals of 5-10 mm are forecast during Monday, isolated higher totals are possible.
Moe River:
Major flooding is occurring in the Moe River catchment.
The Moe River at Darnum is currently at 4.65 metres and falling slowly, with major flooding. The river level is expected to fall below the major flood level later this morning.
Morwell River:
Minor flooding has now eased in the Morwell River catchment, however river levels remain elevated.
Latrobe River Yallourn to Traralgon Creek:
Minor flooding is expected along the Latrobe River Yallourn to Traralgon Creek.
The Latrobe River at Thoms Bridge is currently at 3.46 metres and rising.
The Latrobe River at Thoms Bridge is expected to exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) Monday afternoon.
Latrobe River downstream of Traralgon:
Minor flooding may occur along the Latrobe River downstream of Traralgon.
The Latrobe River at Rosedale (Main Stream) is currently at 2.17 metres and rising.
The Latrobe River at Rosedale (Main Stream) may exceed the minor flood level (4.00 m) during Tuesday.
Flood Safety Advice:
SES advises that all community members should:
Never walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
Never allow children to play in floodwater,
Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains during and after heavy rain,
Keep well clear of fallen power lines
Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks, and heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.}
