Major Flood Warning For The De Grey River Catchment
Issued at 05:13 PM WST on Monday 17 February 2025
Flood Warning Number: 13
MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT COOLENAR POOL
A major flood peak above the March 2000 flood levels was observed along the De Grey River at Coolenar Pool early Sunday morning, where river levels are now slowly easing.
Small renewed rises and prolonged flooding are possible as flood peaks continue to arrive from multiple tributaries. River levels along the De Grey River at Coolenar Pool will remain elevated into mid-week as peaks from the Shaw and Coongan Rivers are followed by peaks from the Nullagine and Oakover Rivers.
River level rises and areas of flooding may adversely affect road conditions. Some roads may become impassable and communities may become isolated. Significant disruption of transportation network and extensive road closures are expected.
Oakover River:
Minor flooding is easing slowly along the Oakover River at Ripon Hills Rd.
Nullagine River:
Minor flooding is occurring at Tumbinna Pool and at Nullagine along the Nullagine River. River levels are slowly easing, however high river levels and areas of flooding are likely to remain during the remainder of Monday into Tuesday.
Coongan River:
Minor flooding is easing at Marble Bar. Flooding has eased at Marble Bar Rd Crossing along the Coongan River. Further areas of flooding are likely along the Coongan River downstream of Marble Bar Rd Crossing during the remainder of Monday into Tuesday.
Shaw River:
Minor flooding is easing slowly at Marble Bar Rd Crossing along the Shaw River. Minor flooding is likely occurring at North Pole Mine. Further areas of flooding are likely along the Shaw River between Marble Bar Rd Crossing and Coolenar Pool on the De Grey River during the remainder of Monday into Tuesday.
De Grey River:
Major flooding is occurring along the De Grey River.
The De Grey River at Coolenar Pool peaked above the March 2000 flood levels (8.86 metres) early Sunday morning. The river level is currently at 8.38 metres and falling slowly, above the major flood level (8.00 metres).
The De Grey River at Coolenar Pool may fall below the major flood level (8.00 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
Flood Safety Advice:
DFES advises people and communities to be aware that flooding is possible and be prepared to relocate equipment and livestock. Watch water levels. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and velocity.}
