MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT MARION DOWNS FROM THURSDAY
MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT BEDOURIE AND GLENGYLE
Moderate flood levels are easing slowly along the Georgina River upstream of Marion Downs. The river level at Marion Downs is currently below the minor flood level and rising, with major flooding possible from Thursday as upstream flows continue to arrive.
Minor flooding is expected to continue along Eyre Creek at Bedourie and Glengyle, with further rises expected into next week as upstream flows arrive.
Further rainfall is forecast this week over the upper Georgina catchment, with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji forecast to move towards northwest Queensland. This is likely to result in renewed river level rises and flooding. This situation is being closely monitored, and warnings will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for the Gulf Country and parts of Western Queensland and the Cape York Peninsula, which includes the Georgina River and Eyre Creek.
Georgina River to Marion Downs:
Major flooding is possible along the Georgina River at Marion Downs from Thursday.
The Georgina River at Marion Downs is currently at 2.90 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Georgina River at Marion Downs is likely to exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) Tuesday evening. The river may exceed the moderate flood level (4.00 m) from Wednesday. The river may exceed the major flood level (5.00 m) from Thursday. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs:
Elevated river levels are expected to be occurring along the Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs, with further rises expected during this week.
Eyre Creek:
Minor flooding is occurring along Eyre Creek. Further rises are expected into next week as upstream flows arrive.
Eyre Creek at Bedourie is currently at 3.72 m and steady, with minor flooding.
Eyre Creek at Bedourie is expected to remain above the minor flood level (3.50 m) over the next few days. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.
No recent observations are available for Eyre Creek at Glengyle. The creek level is estimated to be above the minor flood level (2.00 m) and relatively steady.
