Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone.
Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.
A prolonged period of heat is forecast for the ACT this week. Maximum temperatures in the mid to high thirties and overnight minimum temperatures in the mid teens, reaching the high teens to low twenties later in the week.
The severe to extreme heatwave will peak later this week before easing over the weekend as a southwest to southeasterly change brings milder temperatures. Locations likely to be impacted include Canberra, Belconnen, Gungahlin, Tuggeranong and Woden Valley.
The next heatwave warning will be issued by 3:00pm EDT on Wednesday 07 January 2026
