Coastal Hazard Warning
for DAMAGING SURF
for parts of Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan and Illawarra Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:53 pm Wednesday, 15 January 2025.
Damaging Surf likely about exposed parts of the coast during Thursday to Saturday
Weather Situation
A cold front and its associated trough are forecast to enter the far south coast overnight and cross remaining coasts through Thursday, with strong and gusty southerly winds as well as large and powerful southerly swells in its wake. Strong south to southeasterly winds may remain during the later part of the week and into the weekend as a low pressure system develops off the Mid North coast, continuing to drive the powerful swell towards the coast.
DAMAGING SURF for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan and Illawarra
VERY HEAVY SURF which may lead to localised damage and coastal erosion is likely to develop about exposed coasts between Ulladulla and Broken Bay during Thursday, extending north to Seal Rocks Thursday evening and to Smoky Cape during Friday. These conditions are likely to persist into Saturday north of Port Hacking.
Beach conditions in these areas could be dangerous and people should stay well away from the surf and surf exposed areas.
Locations which may be affected include Port Kembla, Wollongong, Sydney, Terrigal, Norah Head, Newcastle, and Port Macquarie.
A separate Hazardous Surf Warning has also been issued.
An Initial Flood Watch has also been issued.
