Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Large Hailstones, Damaging Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury area.

A severe thunderstorms continues in the Blue Mountains this afternoon.

LARGE HAILSTONES, DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:30 pm, a severe thunderstorm likely to produce large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Bilpin and the Wollemi National Park north of Kurrajong. This thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast. It is forecast to affect Colo Heights and Upper Colo by 5:00 pm and the Yengo National Park northwest of St Albans and the Putty Road north of Colo Heights by 5:30 pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Wollondilly/Wingecarribee,Wollongong

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western, North West Slopes and Plains and Snowy Mountains districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:30 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

An approaching upper trough is combining with a warm and unstable airmass to produce severe thunderstorms this afternoon.
HEAVY RAINFALL, LARGE HAILSTONES and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and Snowy Mountains
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, large hailstones and damaging wind gusts over the next several hours in parts of the Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands and Snowy Mountains districts. Locations which may be affected include Katoomba, Bathurst, Glen Davis, Lithgow, Jenolan Caves and Springwood.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging wind gusts over the next several hours in parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western and North West Slopes and Plains districts. Locations which may be affected include Walgett, Coonamble, Nyngan, Lightning Ridge, Brewarrina and Goodooga.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Lower Western districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
