Weather Situation
A moist and unstable environment to the east of a surface trough will aid the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.
DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Mid North Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains and Northern Tablelands
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the North West Slopes and Plains district. Locations which may be affected include Gunnedah, Mullaley, Boggabri and Tambar Springs.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Central Tablelands and parts of the Mid North Coast, Hunter, Illawarra, South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains, Northern Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Central West Slopes and Plains districts. Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Armidale, Tamworth, Scone, Eden and Mudgee.
111 km/h wind gust recorded at Narrabri at 1:41 pm.
3.5 cm hail reported at Shellharbour at approximately 12:20 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:35 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce large hailstones and damaging winds were detected near Lake Nepean, the Burraga district (southwest of Oberon) and the area between Oberon and Taralga. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Dapto, Pt Kembla and Unanderra by 3:05 pm and Yerranderie, High Range and the western parts of the Wollondilly Shire by 3:35 pm.

Warning to Sheep Graziers

for South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Lower Western, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts

Issued at 11:20 AM EDT on Saturday 08 November 2025

Warning to Sheep Graziers for the following areas:
South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Lower Western, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts
Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and southwesterly winds are expected during Saturday and Sunday. Areas likely to be affected include the Snowy Mountains forecast district and parts of the South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes & Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Lower Western and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
