Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Damaging Winds And Large Hailstones

for Sydney and parts of Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Maitland/Cessnock, Gosford/Wyong, Wollondilly/Wingecarribee and Greater Wollongong areas.

Severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts and large hail approaching the Sydney metropolitan area.

DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury, Maitland/Cessnock, Gosford/Wyong, Sydney, Wollondilly/Wingecarribee and Greater Wollongong
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:10 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging wind gusts and large hailstones were detected near Blackheath, Oakdale, Dapto, Lake Avon, the Rylstone/Kandos district and the Bathurst district. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to southeast. They are forecast to affect Wollongong, Katoomba, Richmond, Camden, Campbelltown, Penrith and Picton by 12:40 pm and Hornsby, Sutherland, Sydney Airport and Mona Vale by 1:10 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Metropolitan, Central Tablelands and parts of the Hunter, Illawarra, Central West Slopes and Plains and Southern Tablelands districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 1:20 pm.

for Metropolitan, Central Tablelands and parts of Hunter, Illawarra, Central West Slopes and Plains and Southern Tablelands Forecast Districts.

Issued at 12:05 pm Wednesday, 26 November 2025.

Severe thunderstorms continuing over Central West, Central Tablelands and Illawarra and approaching Sydney metropolitan area and Hunter.

Weather Situation
A cold front moving through the central east combines with an upper-level trough and an unstable airmass to produce severe thunderstorms. These thunderstorms are moving rapidly towards the east.
LARGE HAILSTONES and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands and Central West Slopes and Plains
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones and damaging wind gusts in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Orange, Dubbo, Bowral, Mudgee, Bathurst and Katoomba.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the South West Slopes district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

for Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney Region, Illawarra/Shoalhaven, Central Ranges, North Western, Upper Central West Plains, Lower Central West Plains, Southern Slopes, Eastern Riverina, Southern Riverina and Northern Riverina fire weather districts

Weather Situation
Hot to very hot and dry conditions will combine with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds over much of New South Wales on Wednesday. Wind will begin to ease during the evening and shift west to southwesterly over western parts. Gusty thunderstorms are expected to develop over northern and eastern districts, most likely in the afternoon.
