Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for Snowy Mountains and parts of Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Lower Western, Australian Capital Territory and South West Slopes Forecast Districts.

Damaging winds redeveloping across the southeastern ranges and in the far west. Blizzards possible for alpine areas.
Weather Situation
A strong cold front will cross the state during Friday. A strengthening northwesterly airstream ahead of this front will result in damaging winds about the far southwest of the state and elevated parts of the southeast.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Lower Western, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory
For parts of the EASTERN RANGES, including the BRINDABELLAS (below 1900 m): Strong west to northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 100 km/h are likely, developing during Friday afternoon.
For the FAR SOUTHWEST: DAMAGING WIND GUSTS around 90 km/h are possible for a brief period in a line of showers as the front moves east across the warning area during Friday morning.
For ALPINE AREAS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with gusts of around 110 km/h are forecast to develop again during Thursday evening, persisting through Friday.
BLIZZARD conditions are forecast for parts of the Snowy Mountains district above 1400 m.
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.
Locations which may be affected include Goulburn, Katoomba, Cooma, Wentworth, Braidwood and Taralga, Thredbo Top Station.
101 km/h gust was recorded at Moss Vale 7:43 am Thursday.
100 km/h gust was recorded at Bellambi at 11:53 pm Wednesday.
100 km/h gust was recorded at Kiama at 11:26 pm Wednesday.
91 km/h gust was recorded at Wollongong at 11:23 pm Wednesday.
91 km/h gust was recorded at Cabramurra at 5:24 pm Wednesday.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Thursday.
