SLOW MOVING INTENSE RAINFALL CONTINUES THROUGH THE SYDNEY METRO AREA

INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
Sydney
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 8:10 pm, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding was detected near Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Fairfield, Manly and Ryde. This thunderstorm is slow moving. It is forecast to affect Horsley Park, Blacktown, Frenchs Forest, Gordon, Baulkham Hills and Dee Why by 8:40 pm and Erskine Park, Collaroy, Kellyville, Rooty Hill, Thornleigh and waters off Dee Why Beach by 9:10 pm.

104.0 MM OF RAINFALL WAS RECORDED AT LIDCOMBE IN THE 3 HOURS TO 8:00 PM.
69.8 mm was recorded at Canterbury in the 3 hours to 8:00 pm.
67.6 mm was recorded at Bankstown Airport in the 3 hours to 8:00 pm.
65.0 mm was recorded at Guildford in the 3 hours to 8:00 pm.
62.0 mm was recorded at Horsley Park in the 3 hours to 8:00 pm.
52.0 mm was recorded at Liverpool in the 3 hours to 8:00 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

Heavy rainfall occurring in showers this afternoon and evening.

Weather Situation
A slow moving trough about the southern Sydney Metro area is bringing persistent heavy showers to the area. This trough is expected to slowly move north and may stall around Sydney this evening.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra and Central Tablelands
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is occurring in southern parts of the Sydney Metropolitan area and is expected to move towards central and western parts through the evening. Three to six-hourly rainfall totals between 60 and 90 mm are possible.
Heavy rainfall is expected to ease below warning thresholds early tomorrow morning.
Locations which may be affected include Sydney, Campbelltown, Penrith, Parramatta and Springwood.
