Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning

for Sydney area.

Warning for the following areas:
New South Wales Anonymous Locale 1
Severe thunderstorms in the warning area have temporarily eased. However, the redevelopment of severe thunderstorms remains possible. The situation is being closely monitored and further detailed warnings will be issued as necessary.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Wollondilly/Wingecarribee,Blue Mountains/Hawkesbury,Hunter,Sydney

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES (NSW and ACT) on 132 500.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Hunter, Metropolitan, South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and parts of the Northern Rivers, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains, Northern Tablelands and Upper Western districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:15 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

for Hunter, Metropolitan, South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and parts of Northern Rivers, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains, Northern Tablelands and Upper Western Forecast Districts.

VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS IN NORTHERN PARTS OF THE NORTH WEST, WITH POSSIBLE GIANT HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS

Weather Situation
Severe thunderstorms continuing in a warm and unstable airmass over large areas of the north and east.
DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Northern Rivers, Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, North West Slopes and Plains, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Western, Snowy Mountains and Northern Tablelands
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the North West Slopes and Plains district. Locations which may be affected include Moree and Bellata.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Hunter, Metropolitan, South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains and parts of the Northern Rivers, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Snowy Mountains, Northern Tablelands and Upper Western districts. Locations which may be affected include Gosford, Sydney, Wollongong, Armidale, Tamworth, Moree and Batemans Bay.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Mid North Coast district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.
5-6 CM HAIL AT CROPPA CREEK AT 2:40 PM.
109 km/h wind gust was recorded at Walgett at 2:24 pm

Mid North Coast

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move your car under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Be aware that run-off from rainfall in fire affected areas may behave differently and be more rapid. It may also contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* After bushfires, heavy rain and the loss of foliage can make the ground soft and heavy, leading to a greater chance of landslides.
* Unplug computers and appliances.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
