for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Barkly and Simpson districts.

Heavy rainfall with slow moving storms through parts of the Barkly and Carpentaria districts.

Weather Situation
Slow moving thunderstorms in a very moist airmass are producing heavy rainfall through parts of the Barkly this afternoon.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Barkly and Simpson
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Ampilatwatja.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Carpentaria district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.
Cancellation for the following areas:

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* slow down and turn your headlights on
* create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home
* secure loose outside objects
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* avoid remaining in the open when storms threaten
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* for emergency help in floods, storms and cyclones, contact the NTES on 132 500. For more safety tips visit www.securent.nt.gov.au

The next warning is due to be issued by 10:35 pm Friday.

Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy, Locally Intense Rainfall

for parts of Simpson, Barkly and Lasseter districts.

HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUING IN THE SOUTHEAST, INTENSE FALLS POSSIBLE.

Weather Situation
A slow-moving tropical low is slowly moving westwards over the far southeast of the NT, before moving south into South Australia over the weekend. Rich tropical moisture surrounding this system is bringing a risk of heavy to locally intense rainfall.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
Barkly, Simpson and Lasseter
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for the far southeastern part of the Barkly district and eastern parts of the Simpson district. Rainfall expected to spread to the southwest across far southern parts of the Simpson district today. Six hour rainfall totals between 50 and 80 mm are possible. 24 hour rainfall totals between 80 and 130 mm are likely, with isolated totals to 200 mm possible.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is possible with slow-moving lines of thunderstorms over the eastern Simpson district. Six hour rainfall totals of around 110 mm are possible.
These conditions also threaten cattle and other livestock.
Conditions are finally expected to ease across the southeast Northern Territory during Saturday evening.

Locations which may be affected include Jervois, Kulgera, Finke and Simpson District east of Finke.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* secure loose outside objects and seek shelter when conditions deteriorate
* pull over if it is raining heavily and you cannot see, park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* create your own sandbags if there is flooding, by using pillow cases or shopping bags filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home
* stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
* ensure pets and animals are safe
* be prepared in case of power outages, have an emergency kit with a radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
