Warning for the following areas:
Arnhem, Carpentaria, Barkly, Simpson, Lasseter and Tanami
Safety Advice:
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.
Maximum temperatures in the high thirties to low forties and overnight minimum temperatures in the mid to high twenties. These temperatures will contract to the Carpentaria and eastern Top End over the coming days as slightly milder temperatures extend across southern NT during Wednesday and Thursday.
Severe heatwave conditions are expected to ease in the south from Wednesday and become confined to the Carpentaria and eastern Top End, before easing over the weekend. Locations likely to be impacted include Alice Springs, Bulman, Ali Curung, Jervois, Kulgera, Ngukurr, Walungurru and Yulara.
