Major Flood Warning For The Katherine River

NITMILUK CENTRE PEAKED AT 7.5 METRES WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON WITH MAJOR FLOODING
KATHERINE BRIDGE IS APPROACHING A PEAK NEAR 17.6 METRES WITH MAJOR FLOODING THURSDAY MORNING
Moderate to heavy rainfall associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle since Sunday has caused significant river level rises along the Katherine River and its tributaries. The Katherine River at Nitmiluk peaked at 7.53 m Wednesday afternoon with major flooding. The flood peak is currently near Katherine Bridge, which is expected to peak this morning near 17.6 m above the major flood level.
Further showers and thunderstorms are possible over the next few days and further river level rises are possible. This situation will be closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Katherine River Gorge Road:
Major flooding is occurring along the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre peaked at 7.53 m around 03:30 pm Wednesday, with major flooding. The river is currently at 6.69 m and falling, with major flooding.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is likely to remain above the major flood level (6.50 m) Thursday morning.

Katherine Town:
Major flooding is occurring along the Katherine River at Katherine Town.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is currently at 17.53 m and rising slowly, with major flooding.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is likely to remain above the major flood level (17.50 m) Thursday morning. The river is expected to peak near 17.60 m Thursday morning, with major flooding.

Minor Flood Warning For The Waterhouse River And Flood Warning For The Roper River

RENEWED MINOR FLOODING LIKELY AT BESWICK BRIDGE LATE WEDNESDAY MORNING
Recent moderate to heavy rainfall associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle has caused river level rises and flooding across the Waterhouse River and Roper River catchments. After a moderate flood peak along the Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge early Tuesday morning, river levels fell below the minor flood level Tuesday evening.
Further rainfall observed overnight Tuesday into Wednesday has caused renewed river level rises, with river level at Beswick Bridge is likely to reach around the minor flood level late Wednesday morning.
Further showers and thunderstorms are forecast during Wednesday which may cause further river level rises. The situation is being monitored and this warning will be updated as required.

Waterhouse River:
Renewed minor flooding is likely along the Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge.
The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is currently at 7.67 m and rising, below the minor flood level.
The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is likely to reach around the minor flood level (7.70 m) late Wednesday morning. The river may remain around the minor flood level (7.70 m) for the remainder of Wednesday into Thursday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

Roper River below Elsey Creek:
River levels remain elevated throughout the Roper River catchment.

Major Flood Warning For The Daly River

RENEWED RIVER RISES AND PROLONGED MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT DALY RIVER POLICE STATION
Moderate to heavy rainfall associated with Ex-Tropical Cyclone Narelle has been observed across the Daly River catchment since Sunday. The flood peak has passed Dorisvale Crossing and is approaching Theyona Station. Prolonged major flooding is continuing along the Daly River at Daly River Police Station, where the river levels are expected to remain above the major flood level for the remainder of March. While recent rainfall has caused renewed rises in river levels, they are expected to remain well below levels recorded earlier in March.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast across the Daly River catchment over the next few days but are not expected to contribute significantly to riverine flows.
A major flood warning is current for the Katherine River.

Daly River above Douglas River:
River levels are elevated along the Daly River downstream of Dorisvale Crossing. Renewed rises are occurring at Theyona Station.
Lower Daly River:
Prolonged major flooding is continuing along the Daly River with renewed rises.
The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is currently at 14.54 m and rising slowly, with major flooding.
The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is expected to remain above the major flood level (14.00 m) for the remainder of March.
