Major Flood Warning For The Katherine River

KATHERINE BRIDGE LIKELY TO REMAIN ABOVE MAJOR THROUGH SUNDAY AND INTO MONDAY
NITMILUK CENTRE MAY REMAIN AROUND MODERATE INTO MONDAY
River levels along the Katherine River are continuing to fall. At Nitmiluk Centre, with renewed rises, the river level may remain around moderate flood level into Monday. At Katherine Bridge, river levels are falling slowly, with a prolonged recession expected given the magnitude of the peak, and are likely to remain above the major flood level through Sunday and into Monday
Further rainfall is expected for the next few days, which may cause renewed river level rises. Widespread heavy falls are unlikely, but isolated heavier falls remain possible. The situation is being closely monitored and the warning will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End.

Katherine River Gorge Road:
Moderate flooding is occurring at Katherine River Gorge Road.
The Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre is currently at 5.52 m and falling, with moderate flooding.
With forecast rainfall, the Katherine River at Nitmiluk Centre may remain around the moderate flood level (5.50 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

Katherine Town:
Major flooding is occurring at Katherine Town.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge peaked at 19.20 m around 10:45 pm Saturday 7 March, with major flooding. The river is currently at 18.69 m and steady, with major flooding.
The Katherine River at Katherine Bridge is likely to remain above the major flood level (17.50 m) through Sunday into Monday. Further renewed rises are possible with forecast rain.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.

Major Flood Warning For The Daly River

SIGNIFICANT AND PROLONGED MAJOR FLOODING AT DALY RIVER POLICE STATION
Major flooding is occurring along the Daly River at Daly River Police Station, where the river level is expected to exceed 14.80 overnight Sunday into Monday and likely to exceed 15.30 metres on Wednesday (above the 1957 flood levels), with further rises expected. An extended peak and significant period of major flooding can be expected through next weekend 14-15th March and into the following week.
The main flood peak from the Katherine is still moving downstream and has not yet reached Dorisvale. The flood peak currently near Dorisvale is due to flood waters from the Fergusson River.
Further rainfall is possible over the next few days and situation is being closely monitored, and the warning will be updated as required.
A Major Flood Warning is current for the Katherine River, and a Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End.

Daly River above Douglas River:
River level rises are occurring in the upper Daly River, and flooding is expected to continue for at least the next few days.
Fergusson River:
River levels are elevated along the Fergusson River and tributaries.
Lower Daly River:
Major flooding is occurring along the Daly River.
The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is currently at 14.44 m and rising, with major flooding. This is already above the Feb 2026 flood level.
The Daly River at Daly River Police Station is expected to exceed 14.80 m overnight Sunday into Monday, with major flooding. Major flooding at Daly River Police Station is likely to exceed 15.30 m during Wednesday, higher than the 1957 flood levels of 15.19 metres. Further rises are expected as upstream flows arrive.

Moderate Flood Warning For The Waterhouse River And Flood Warning For Roper River

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BESWICK BRIDGE
Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecasts for the next day or two in the Roper and Waterhouse Rivers.
Whilst river levels are falling across the Waterhouse River, renewed rises to the moderate flood level or prolonged flooding are possible with forecast rainfall. River levels remain elevated across the Roper River.
This situation will be closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End.

Waterhouse River:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Waterhouse River.
The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is currently at 7.96 m and falling, with minor flooding.
The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is expected to remain above the minor flood level (7.70 m) through to Sunday evening. Renewed river level rises to the moderate flood level (8.10 m) are possible overnight Sunday into Monday with forecast rainfall.

Roper River below Elsey Creek:
River levels are elevated throughout the Roper River catchment.
