Moderate Flood Warning For The Diamantina River

MODERATE FLOODING CONTINUING ALONG THE DIAMANTINA RIVER AT BIRDSVILLE
Significant rainfall was observed across the Diamantina catchment during last week, resulting in rapid river level rises. Elevated river levels are occurring downstream of Diamantina Lakes on the Diamantina River, with a moderate peak downstream of Diamantina Lakes.
Along the Diamantina River at Birdsville moderate flooding is continuing after a moderate flood peak on Monday morning. Another flood peak is between Monkira and Roseberth.
Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is currently at 5.46 m and steady, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) and well above the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway level (2.10 m).
Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Moderate flooding is occurring at Roseberth and Birdsville. Minor flooding is occurring at Monkira and is easing at Durrie Station.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station is currently at 6.55 m and slowly falling, with moderate flooding.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station is expected to remain above the moderate flood level (6.00 m) until about mid March. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

MAJOR FLOODING ESTIMATED TO BE OCCURRING AT WINDORAH AND POSSIBLE AT JUNDAH FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON
A MODERATE FLOOD PEAK IS OCCURRING AT STONEHENGE
A moderate flood peak moving along the Thomson River is passing through Stonehenge. Upstream at Camoola Park and Longreach river levels are falling slowly. The flood peak currently around Stonehenge is likely to move through Jundah over the weekend.
Along the lower Barcoo River, flooding is easing with the main peak is now downstream of Retreat. Renewed rises are possible with forecast rain over the weekend and into next week.
Along the Cooper Creek, renewed major flooding is estimated to be occurring at Windorah (Main Channel). Further rises are likely as upstream flows arrive from the Thomson and Barcoo Rivers, with a flood peak forecast to reach Windorah early next week.
Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast for upper parts of the Thomson and Barcoo River catchments over the weekend. The situation is being monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Thomson River:
Minor to moderate flooding is occurring along the Thomson River. Major flooding is possible at Jundah.
No current river level observations are available for the Thomson River at Camoola Park. The river level is estimated to be above the minor flood level and falling slowly, with minor flooding.
The Thomson River at Camoola Park is expected to remain above the minor flood level (2.00 m) through to mid March.
The Thomson River at Longreach is currently at 4.38 m and steady, with moderate flooding.
The Thomson River at Longreach may fall below the moderate flood level (4.30 m) Friday afternoon.
No observations are currently available for the Thomson River at Stonehenge. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level is estimated to be above the moderate flood level (3.00 m) and steady around a peak.
The Thomson River at Stonehenge may remain around 3.50 m, near its peak during the weekend, with moderate flooding.
The Thomson River at Jundah is currently at 4.85 m and steady, with moderate flooding.
The Thomson River at Jundah may peak near the major flood level (5.00 m) during the weekend.
Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:
Flooding is easing along the Barcoo River at Retreat with renewed rises possible.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 1.95 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is expected to remain below the minor flood level (2.14 m) during Saturday. Renewed rises are possible with forecast rain over the weekend and into next week.
Cooper Creek:
Major flooding is estimated to be occurring along the Cooper Creek at Windorah.
No observations are currently available for the Cooper Creek at Windorah. Based on upstream gauges major flooding is estimated to be continuing.
The Cooper Creek at Windorah may reach around 5.50 m early next week, with major flooding.

MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT WALKERS BEND AND EXPECTED TO CONTINUE INTO NEXT WEEK
The main flood peak along the Flinders River has moved downstream of Etta Plains and is approaching Walkers Bend. The flood peak along the Cloncurry River has just passed through Canobie, upstream of its junction with the Flinders River.
River levels continue rising slowly along the lower Flinders River at Walkers Bend, where major flooding has been occurring since Thursday afternoon, as floodwaters from both the Cloncurry and Flinders rivers arrive.
Showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the weekend and into next week, with heavy rainfall possible, which may cause further river level rises.
A Flood Watch is current for North Tropical Coast and parts of Cape York Peninsula, Central Coast, Capricornia and Carpentaria catchments, which includes upper Flinders River catchment.
Flinders River downstream of Richmond:
River levels are elevated along the Flinders River downstream of Richmond. Major flooding is occurring at Walkers Bend.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is currently at 8.41 m and rising, with major flooding.
The Flinders River at Walkers Bend is expected to remain above the major flood level (8.00 m) into next week. Further rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

BELOW MINOR PEAK OCCURRED OVERNIGHT WITH RIVER LEVELS EASING AT YATTON
A peak below the minor level was observed along the Isaac River at Yatton overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
Rainfall is forecast across the catchment from Friday which may cause renewed river level rises.
Connors and Isaac Rivers:
River levels are easing along the Isaac River.
The Isaac River at Yatton is currently at 7.05 m and falling, below the minor flood level (7.50 m).
The Isaac River at Yatton is expected to remain below the minor flood level during Wednesday.
