A monsoon trough lies across the northern Queensland interior in an environment rich with tropical moisture, allowing the development of slow-moving heavy showers and severe thunderstorms.

Heavy rainfall possible between Tully and Ayr during the weekend and into the early part of the week.
Weather Situation
Significant rainfall may continue over the weekend about the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the Cassowary Coast, with a monsoon trough in place, rich tropical moisture and onshore flow expected to strengthen. Enhanced rainfall due to widespread showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms is possible throughout the weekend and into the early part of the week, with extremely wet soils and river catchments leading to a higher than normal vulnerability to flash flooding.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the Herbert and Lower Burdekin and the North Tropical Coast this weekend. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 120 to 180 mm are possible. Isolated 24-hourly rainfall totals up to 250 mm are possible. Isolated heavy falls are possible through the remainder of the weekend, before easing early this week.
Heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
A Flood Watch and various Flood Warnings are current for parts of northeastern Queensland. Please refer to http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for more information.
Locations which may be affected include Townsville, Palm Island, Ingham, Ayr, Giru and Lucinda.

160 mm of rainfall was recorded at Gairloch in the 6 hours to 7:45 pm.

* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

RENEWED MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GAIRLOCH, INGHAM PUMP STATION, ABERGOWRIE BRIDGE AND GLENEAGLE FROM OVERNIGHT SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY
Heavy rainfall has been observed across the Herbert River catchment over the last week, particularly over the lower reaches of the catchment. Further heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast for the remainder of the weekend.
Minor to moderate flooding is occurring along the Herbert River. Renewed river level rises and areas of minor to major flooding are possible along the Herbert River with forecast rainfall, however the river levels are not expected to reach the levels seen earlier this month at this stage.
A Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall is current for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.
Herbert River to Nash's Crossing:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Herbert River to Nash's Crossing.
No recent observations are available for the Herbert River at Gleneagle, however, based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level at Gleneagle is expected to be above the minor flood level (4.50 m).
The Herbert River at Gleneagle may reach the moderate flood level (8.50 m) overnight Saturday into Sunday, with forecast rainfall. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing:
Moderate to major flooding may occur along the Herbert River downstream of Nash's Crossing.
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge is currently at 7.60 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (6.00 m).
The Herbert River at Abergowrie Bridge may reach the moderate flood level (10.00 m) from Sunday morning, with forecast rainfall. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station (Alert gauge) is currently at 8.39 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (10.00 m).
The Herbert River at Ingham Pump Station may reach the minor flood level (10.00 m) from Sunday morning. The river level may reach the moderate flood level (11.00 m) from late Sunday morning, with forecast rainfall. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
The Herbert River at Gairloch (Alert gauge) is currently at 7.94 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (9.50 m).

MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT INKERMAN BRIDGE OVERNIGHT SUNDAY INTO MONDAY
MAJOR FLOODING CONTINUING AT SELLHEIM (MACROSSAN BRIDGE) AND TAEMAS
Recent heavy rainfall has resulted in river level rises along the Burdekin, Cape, Belyando and Suttor Rivers.
River level rises are occurring along the Cape River, where a major flood peak is likely to pass through Taemas on Sunday. River level rises are also occurring along the Belyando and Suttor Rivers. A moderate flood peak is likely to pass through St Anns Sunday night into Monday.
River level rises are occurring along the Burdekin River where major flooding continues at Sellheim. Moderate flooding is occurring at Burdekin Dam, Dalbeg, Clare and Inkerman Bridge. Major flooding is possible at Inkerman Bridge overnight Sunday into Monday.
Predictions for the lower Burdekin will be revised once the peak at Burdekin Falls Dam has been observed.
Further rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over the next few days. A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.

Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Belyando and Suttor Rivers to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Suttor River at St Anns is currently at 6.90 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
A moderate peak is likely in the Suttor River at St Anns overnight Sunday into Monday.
Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding is occurring along the Cape River to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Cape River at Taemas is currently at 8.31 metres and rising, with major flooding.
A major peak is expected in the Cape River at Taemas during Sunday.
Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding is likely along the Burdekin River to Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Burdekin River at Sellheim peaked at 17.28 metres around 12:31 pm Saturday 08 February and is currently at 14.95 metres and falling, just below the major flood level (15.00 m).
Renewed river level rises along the Burdekin River at Sellheim are expected to exceed the major flood level (15.00 m) during Sunday morning. River levels may reach around 16.70 metres Sunday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rain, however any further river levels are not expected to reach the levels seen earlier this month.
The Burdekin River at Burdekin Dam is currently at 5.88 metres and steady, with moderate flooding.
The Burdekin River at Burdekin Dam may reach around 6.30 metres early Sunday, with moderate flooding. Further rises possible with forecast rain.
Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam:
Major flooding may occur along the Burdekin River downstream of Burdekin Falls Dam.
The Burdekin River at Dalbeg is currently at 17.58 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
The Burdekin River at Dalbeg may reach around 18.20 metres Sunday morning, with moderate flooding. Further rises possible with forecast rain.
The Burdekin River at Clare is currently at 14.70 metres and steady, above the moderate flood level (13.00 m).

Moderate Flood Warning For The Ross And Bohle Rivers And Flood Warning For The Black River And Bluewater Creek

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE WITH FORECAST RAINFALL FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS ACROSS THE ROSS AND BOHLE RIVERS
River levels remain elevated on Saturday evening across the Ross and Bohle Rivers, and the Black River and Bluewater Creek catchments.
Further thunderstorms and heavy rainfall are forecast during the next few days. Whilst catchments remain wet from recent prolonged rainfall, any further rainfall is expected to result in rapid rises and lead to a return of more significant flooding across the Townsville area.
As advised by Townsville City Council, Ross River Dam will see controlled releases through the spillway. This will contribute to flows downstream in the Ross River.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin Forecast Districts.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.

Moderate flooding may occur along the Ross River.

Bohle River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Bohle River.
The Bohle River at Mt Bohle is currently at 4.51 metres and steady, above the minor flood level (4.00 m).
The Bohle River at Mt Bohle is likely to remain above the minor flood level (4.00 m) overnight Saturday. Further areas of heavy rainfall are forecast, which may cause renewed rises above the moderate flood level (5.50 m) during Sunday.
Black River and Bluewater Creek:
Renewed river and creek level rises below minor flood levels are occurring across the Black River and Bluewater Creek catchments during Saturday evening. River and creek levels will remain very responsive to the heavy rainfall forecast over the next few days, with further renewed rises expected.

MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT GIRU
Heavy rainfall has been observed across the Haughton River catchment over the last week. Further heavy rainfall is forecast for the remainder of the weekend.
The Haughton River at Giru is likely to remain above the major flood level overnight Saturday into Sunday. With upstream flows arriving and forecast rainfall further rises are possible, however the river levels are not expected to reach the levels seen earlier this month.
The situation is being monitored and the warning will be updated as required.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin forecast districts.
Major Creek:
Renewed rises above the moderate flood level are occurring along Major Creek.
Haughton River:
Major flooding is occurring along the Haughton River.
The Haughton River at Giru is currently at 2.88 metres and steady, above the major flood level (2.50 m).
The Haughton River at Giru is likely to remain above the major flood level (2.50 m) during the remainder of Saturday. The river level may reach around 3.00 metres Sunday morning. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
