for Destructive Winds, Giant Hailstones And Heavy Rainfall

for Lockyer Valley and parts of Ipswich, Somerset, Brisbane City, Moreton Bay and Toowoomba Council Areas.

VERY DANGEROUS STORM WITH GIANT HAIL AND DESTRUCTIVE WINDS APPROACHING ESK

DESTRUCTIVE WINDS, GIANT HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Ipswich, Somerset, Toowoomba, Lockyer Valley, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:15 pm, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Gatton and Grantham. This thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast. It is forecast to affect Laidley, the area south of Esk and the area southwest of Esk by 2:45 pm and Esk, the area west of Esk and the area northwest of Esk by 3:15 pm.
5 CM HAIL STONES WERE REPORTED AT NOBBY AT 1:55 PM.
5 CM HAIL STONES WERE REPORTED AT CLIFTON AT 1:30 PM.
9 CM HAIL STONES WERE REPORTED AT PRATTEN AT 1:03 PM.
2 cm hail stones were reported at Mt Walker at 12:44 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
* Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, toys and trampolines if it s safe to do so.
* Stay away from windows if there is giant hail.
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego and Southeast Coast districts.

The next warning is due to be issued by 3:35 pm.

This will combine with strong winds in the upper atmosphere to provide a favourable environment for the development of isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast
