Severe storms with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall continue near Gympie, moving north.

DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gympie
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:45 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near the ranges between Gympie and Murgon. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north. They are forecast to affect the area north of Gympie by 6:15 pm and the area northwest of Gympie and Mount Kanighan by 6:45 pm.

Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone.
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.

Maximum temperatures in the low to mid forties over western and central areas with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid to high twenties.

In the east maximum temperatures in the mid thirties to low forties with overnight minimum temperatures in the low to mid twenties.

Severe to extreme heatwave conditions currently around the state are expected to intensify in the east early this week before easing from the middle of the week. Conditions in the south and west are expected to ease from the middle of the week and contract to the east. Locations likely to be impacted include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Charters Towers, Clermont, Cloncurry, Charleville, Gladstone, Longreach, Mount Isa, Rockhampton and Winton.
