Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for Intense Rainfall
for parts of Gympie and South Burnett Council Areas.
Issued at 8:14 pm Wednesday, 24 December 2025.
Severe thunderstorms continuing in the Darling Downs, Scenic Rim, Toowoomba, and developing over the Western Downs and Burnett region.
INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gympie and South Burnett
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 8:05 pm, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce heavy, locally intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding was detected near the area south of Lake Boondooma. This thunderstorm is moving towards the northeast. It is forecast to affect Proston, Lake Boondooma and the area northwest of Murgon by 8:35 pm and Boondooma by 9:05 pm.
60.mm was recorded at Jimna in the 30 minutes to 2:55pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Brisbane,Toowoomba ,Scenic Rim,Cherbourg,Somerset,Lockyer Valley,Ipswich,Logan
Emergency services advise people to:
* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast districts.
Other warnings may be current.
The next warning is due to be issued by 9:15 pm.
