Moisture and instability persist to the east of a surface trough through eastern Queensland, resulting in a broad risk of severe thunderstorms. About the southeast this trough is forecast to push offshore during the evening.

Peninsula, Gulf Country, North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Southeast Coast district. Locations with may be affected include Coomera and Southport.

Locations which may be affected include Gold Coast, Brisbane, Maroochydore, Gympie, Ipswich and Biloela.

3 cm hail reported in inner northern Brisbane suburbs around 3:20 pm.
52 mm of rainfall recorded at Mareeba in the 30 minutes to 2:24 pm.
57 mm of rainfall recorded at Fish Hole Creek in the 30 minutes to 12:45 pm.

Emergency services advise people to:
* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
* Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, toys and trampolines if it s safe to do so.
* Stay away from windows if there is giant hail.
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:35 pm, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce damaging, locally destructive winds, large, possibly giant hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding was detected near Coomera and Hope Island. This thunderstorm is moving towards the east. It is forecast to affect South Stradbroke Island and waters off South Stradbroke Island by 8:05 pm.

Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.

Maximum temperatures in the low forties over northwestern and central areas with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid twenties.

In the east maximum temperatures in the low to mid thirties with overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to mid twenties.

Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue to contract from western parts of the State over the coming days, and ease towards the start of next week in the east. Locations likely to be impacted include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Bundaberg, Biloela, Gladstone, Gympie, Ipswich, Ingham, Longreach, Mackay and Maroochydore.
