Moderate Flood Warning For The Ross, Bohle And Black Rivers
Issued at 11:54 AM EST on Wednesday 12 February 2025
Flood Warning Number: 45
MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT APLIN WEIR
FURTHER RAINFALL MAY CAUSE RENEWED RIVER LEVEL RISES AND POSSIBLE MODERATE FLOODING AT APLIN WEIR AND MT BOHLE
Showers and thunderstorms remain a possibility overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Catchments remain wet from recent prolonged rainfall. Further localised heavy rainfall may result in rapid river level rises and may lead to a return of more significant flooding across the Townsville area.
As advised by Townsville City Council, Ross River Dam will see controlled releases through the spillway. This will contribute to flows downstream in the Ross River.
The flood situation is being closely monitored and forecasts and warnings will be updated as required.
Ross River:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Ross River, however, localised heavy rainfall may result in renewed river level rises.
The Ross River at Aplin Weir is currently at 1.16 metres and steady, above the minor flood level (1.10 m).
The Ross River at Aplin Weir is likely to remain above the minor flood level (1.10 m) during Wednesday. Further areas of localised heavy rainfall remain possible and may cause renewed river level rises to the moderate flood level (1.60 m) overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
Bohle River:
Renewed moderate flooding is possible along the Bohle River with further rainfall.
The Bohle River at Mt Bohle is currently at 2.71 metres and falling, below the minor flood level.
Further areas of localised heavy rainfall may cause renewed river level rises to the moderate flood level (5.50 m) along the Bohle River at Mt Bohle overnight Wednesday into Thursday.
Black River and Bluewater Creek:
River and creek levels are easing across the Black River and Bluewater Creek catchments, however the catchments will remain very responsive to any localised heavy rainfall over the next few days, with renewed rises possible.
Flood Safety Advice:
Remember: If it's flooded, forget it. For flood emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. For life threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.}
