A humid and unstable airmass is in place with a southeasterly wind change moving through the southeast. Severe thunderstorms are moving to the north and are expected to continue throughout the afternoon and evening.
LARGE, POSSIBLY GIANT HAILSTONES, DAMAGING, LOCALLY DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast
VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS are likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts. Locations which may be affected include Maroochydore, Gympie, Noosa Heads, Nambour, Rainbow Beach and Cooroy.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast districts. Locations which may be affected include Brisbane, Caboolture, and Ipswich.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Capricornia district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:10 pm, VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORMS likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones, damaging, locally destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near waters off Noosa Heads and the area southwest of Gympie. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north to northeast. They are forecast to affect Gympie, Double Is Point and the area north of Gympie by 4:40 pm and Wide Bay by 5:10 pm.
Other severe thunderstorms likely to produce large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Maroochydore and Caboolture. These thunderstorms are moving towards the north. They are forecast to affect Caloundra, Noosa Heads and waters off Caloundra by 4:40 pm and the area southwest of Noosa Heads, the area northwest of Noosa Heads and the area north of Noosa Heads by 5:10 pm.

Warning for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Herbert and Lower Burdekin, Central Coast and Whitsundays and Channel Country
Warning for the following areas:
Peninsula, Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Capricornia, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, North West, Maranoa and Warrego, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett and Southeast Coast

Safety Advice:
Extreme heatwaves can be dangerous for everyone.
Severe heatwaves can be dangerous for many people, especially older people, babies, children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, people with medical conditions and people who are unwell.
Seek a place to keep cool, such as your home, a library, community centre or shopping centre.
Close your windows and draw blinds, curtains or awnings early in the day to keep the heat out of your home.
If available, use fans or air-conditioners to keep cool.

Maximum temperatures in the low to mid forties over western and central areas with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid to high twenties.

In the east maximum temperatures in the mid thirties to low forties with overnight minimum temperatures in the low to mid twenties.

Severe to extreme heatwave conditions currently around the state are expected to intensify in the east early this week before easing from the middle of the week. Conditions in the south and west are expected to ease from the middle of the week and contract to the east. Locations likely to be impacted include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Charters Towers, Clermont, Cloncurry, Charleville, Gladstone, Longreach, Mount Isa, Rockhampton and Winton.
