Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland
for Giant Hailstones And Destructive Winds
for parts of Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay Council Areas.

SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WITH POSSIBLE GIANT HAIL PASSING TO THE WEST OF BRISBANE.
GIANT HAILSTONES and DESTRUCTIVE WINDS for the following areas:
Ipswich, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 4:30 pm, a VERY DANGEROUS THUNDERSTORM likely to produce large, possibly giant hailstones and damaging, locally destructive winds was detected near Lake Manchester, Upper Brookfield and Enoggera Reservoir. This thunderstorm is moving towards the north. It is forecast to affect Strathpine, Highvale and Samford by 5:00 pm and Caboolture, Dayboro and Burpengary by 5:30 pm.
3 to 4 cm hail was observed at Cedar Grove around 4:15 pm.
2 to 3 cm hail was observed near Mt Lindesay around 4:00 pm.
2 cm hail was observed at Collingwood Park around 4:00 pm.
3 to 4 cm hail was observed east of Rathdowney around 3:50 pm.
Emergency services advise people to:
* If you have children make sure they are with you or an adult you trust.
* Pack away, secure or tie down outdoor furniture, toys and trampolines if it s safe to do so.
* Stay away from windows if there is giant hail.
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southeast Coast and parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.
The next warning is due to be issued by 5:40 pm.
