Moderate Flood Warning For The Conners-Isaac, Mackenzie And Fitzroy Rivers And Flood Warning For The Nogoa River Catchment
Issued at 09:52 PM AEST on Friday 16 January 2026
Flood Warning Number: 20
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT YAAMBA FROM SATURDAY EVENING AND AT ROCKHAMPTON FROM MONDAY
MODERATE FLOODING CONTINUES AT TARTRUS AND AT YATTON
Multiple flood peaks are currently moving through the Fitzroy River catchment. A flood peak from the Connors-Isaac River has moved into the Mackenzie River and is downstream of Tartrus, between Coolmaringa and Foleyvale. Another peak from Theresa Creek is moving through the lower Nogoa River and into the upper parts of the Mackenzie River catchment. This peak may prolong minor to moderate flooding along the Mackenzie River at Tartrus during the weekend.
River level rises are occurring along the Fitzroy River as flows arrive from the Mackenzie River and are expected to continue over the next few days. Minor flooding is estimated to be occurring at Yaamba and likely at Rockhampton from Sunday afternoon. Moderate flooding is possible at Yaamba from Saturday evening and at Rockhampton from Monday, with a moderate flood peak possible at Rockhampton from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Significant uncertainties remain regarding peak water levels along the Lower Fitzroy River and peak forecasts and timings will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible over the next few days, which may cause river level rises in parts of the catchment, but are not expected to significantly impact river levels along the Fitzroy River.
Nogoa River:
Renewed river level rises are occurring in the Theresa Creek catchment, with a minor flood peak observed at Clermont early Friday morning. The river level at Duckponds is falling, with moderate flooding.
Connors and Isaac Rivers:
Moderate flooding is occurring at Yatton and minor flooding is occurring at Pink Lagoon.
The Isaac River at Yatton is currently at 14.81 m and falling, with moderate flooding.
The Isaac River at Yatton is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (9.50 m) for the next few days.
Mackenzie River:
Major flooding is occurring at Coolmaringa. Moderate flooding is occurring at Bedford Weir and Tartrus and minor flooding is occurring at Bingegang.
The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is currently at 14.92 m and falling, with moderate flooding.
The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (13.00 m) for the next few days.
Fitzroy River:
Moderate flooding is possible at Yaamba and Rockhampton. Minor flooding is occurring at Riverslea.
No observations are currently available for the Fitzroy River at Yaamba. Based on the upstream gauge at Wattlebank, the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level and rising.
The Fitzroy River at Yaamba may exceed the moderate flood level (12.00 m) from Saturday evening. The river may peak near 14.80 m from Tuesday 20 January, with moderate flooding. Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.
As at 2:55 pm Friday, the Fitzroy River at Rockhampton was at 3.37 m and falling with the tide, below the minor flood level.
The Fitzroy River at Rockhampton is likely to exceed the minor flood level (7.00 m) from Sunday afternoon. The river may exceed the moderate flood level (7.50 m) from Monday. The river may peak near 8.00 m from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with moderate flooding. Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.
