Severe thunderstorms affecting Brisbane

DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gympie, Somerset, Redland City, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Brisbane City and Moreton Bay
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:05 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Brisbane CBD, Strathpine, Beachmere, the area south of Esk and Borumba Dam. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast. They are forecast to affect Ormiston, Camp Hill and southern waters of Moreton Bay by 5:35 pm and Cleveland, Pomona and the area northwest of Noosa Heads by 6:05 pm.
2 cm hail was reported at Elanora at around 4:10pm
3-4 cm hail was reported at Bardon and Ashgrove at around 3:30pm
2-3 cm hail was reported at Milton at 3:25pm
Cancellation for the following areas:
Gold Coast,Dalby,South Burnett,Toowoomba ,Scenic Rim,Cherbourg,Logan

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.

Maximum temperatures in the low forties over northwestern and central areas with overnight minimum temperatures in the mid twenties.

In the east maximum temperatures in the low to mid thirties with overnight minimum temperatures in the high teens to mid twenties.

Severe heatwave conditions are expected to continue to contract from western parts of the State over the coming days, and ease towards the start of next week in the east. Locations likely to be impacted include Brisbane Metropolitan Area, Bundaberg, Biloela, Gladstone, Gympie, Ipswich, Ingham, Longreach, Mackay and Maroochydore.

RENEWED RISES AND MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BARALABA FROM FRIDAY MORNING
Recent storms have caused renewed river level rises between Theodore and Moura. Minor flooding may develop along the Dawson River at Baralaba from Friday morning. Showers and storms are forecast over the next few days, which may result in further river level rises.

Dawson River downstream of Theodore:
Minor flooding is possible along the Dawson River at Baralaba.
No observations are currently available for the Dawson River at Baralaba, however based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is estimated to be below the minor flood level (4.00 m) and rising slowly.
Renewed river level rises and minor flooding (4.00 m) are possible along the Dawson River at Baralaba from Friday morning as upstream peaks arrive.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
