Severe thunderstorms continuing over parts of the southeast this afternoon.

Weather Situation
Very warm and humid onshore flow is combining with a trough of low pressure to produce severe thunderstorms over parts of southeast Queensland today.
LARGE HAILSTONES, HEAVY RAINFALL and DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Central Highlands and Coalfields, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Southeast Coast
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Warwick, Toowoomba, Dalby, Kingaroy, Gatton and Stanthorpe.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 5:45 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and emergency services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

HEAVY RAINFALL, DAMAGING WINDS and LARGE HAILSTONES for the following areas:
Toowoomba
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:20 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones were detected near the area west of Oakey. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast. They are forecast to affect Oakey and Jondaryan by 2:50 pm and Felton by 3:20 pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Dalby,South Burnett

* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.

Moderate Flood Warning For The Connors-Isaac, Mackenzie And Fitzroy Rivers And Flood Warning For The Nogoa River Catchment

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT YAAMBA FROM SATURDAY EVENING AND AT ROCKHAMPTON FROM MONDAY
MODERATE FLOODING CONTINUES AT TARTRUS AND YATTON
Multiple flood peaks are currently moving through the Fitzroy River catchment. The main flood peak is along the Mackenzie River between Coolmaringa and Foleyvale. Another peak from Theresa Creek has moved through the lower Nogoa River and into the upper Mackenzie River, and is currently between Bedford Weir and Bingegang Weir. This peak may prolong minor to moderate flooding along the Mackenzie River at Tartrus during the weekend and into next week. Renewed river level rises are also occurring in upper parts of the Connors-Isaac catchment and parts of Theresa Creek following recent rainfall.
River level rises along the Fitzroy River are expected to continue into next week as flows arrive from the Mackenzie River. Minor flooding is estimated to be occurring at Yaamba and likely at Rockhampton from Sunday evening. Moderate flooding is possible at Yaamba from Saturday evening and at Rockhampton from Monday, with a moderate flood peak possible at Rockhampton from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Significant uncertainties remain regarding peak water levels along the Lower Fitzroy River and peak forecasts and timings will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.
Showers and thunderstorms are possible over the next few days, which may cause renewed river level rises in parts of the catchment, but are not expected to significantly impact river levels along the Fitzroy River.

Nogoa River:
Renewed river level rises are occurring in the Theresa Creek catchment, with major flooding occurring at Valeria Saturday morning. Renewed river level rises are occurring downstream at Gregory Highway.
Connors and Isaac Rivers:
Renewed rises and moderate flooding are occurring at Pink Lagoon. Downstream, moderate flooding is easing at Yatton.
The Isaac River at Yatton is currently at 13.86 m and falling, with moderate flooding.
The Isaac River at Yatton is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (9.50 m) for the next few days. Small renewed river level rises are possible as upstream flows arrive.

Mackenzie River:
Major flooding is easing at Coolmaringa. Moderate flooding is easing at Bedford Weir and Tartrus, and minor flooding is rising at Bingegang Weir HG.
The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is currently at 14.17 m and falling, with moderate flooding.
The Mackenzie River at Tartrus is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (13.00 m) during Saturday and into Sunday.

Fitzroy River:
Moderate flooding is possible at Yaamba and Rockhampton. Minor flooding is rising at Riverslea.
No observations are currently available for the Fitzroy River at Yaamba. Based on the upstream gauge at Wattlebank, the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level and rising.
The Fitzroy River at Yaamba may exceed the moderate flood level (12.00 m) from Saturday evening. The river may peak near 14.80 m from Tuesday 20 January, with moderate flooding. Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.

As at 8:55 am Saturday, the Fitzroy River at Rockhampton was at 4.73 m and rising with the tide, below the minor flood level.
The Fitzroy River at Rockhampton is likely to exceed the minor flood level (7.00 m) from Sunday evening. The river may exceed the moderate flood level (7.50 m) from Monday. The river may peak near 8.00 m from overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, with moderate flooding. Peak forecasts will be refined as upstream peaks are observed.

Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
