Moderate To Major Flood Warning For The Thomson And Barcoo Rivers And Cooper Creek

MAJOR FLOODING EXPECTED AT JUNDAH AND POSSIBLE AT RETREAT TUESDAY EVENING
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT STONEHENGE TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WINDORAH FROM WEDNESDAY
Moderate to heavy rainfall observed since Sunday across the lower parts of the Thomson and Barcoo Rivers, and along Cooper Creek has caused significant river level rises. Moderate flooding is occurring at Retreat where major flooding is likely Tuesday evening. Major flooding is expected at Jundah. Moderate flooding is also possible at Stonehenge and Windorah.
Further areas of widespread rainfall with locally heavy totals are forecast to continue for the next few days, which is likely to result in further river and creek level rises along the Thomson and Barcoo Rivers and Cooper Creek.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Thomson River:
Major flooding is expected along the Thomson River.
There are no current observations available for the Thomson River at Stonehenge, however based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level and rising.
The Thomson River at Stonehenge may reach the moderate flood level (3.00 m) overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
There are no current observations available for the Thomson River at Jundah, however based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be above the moderate flood level and rising.
The Thomson River at Jundah is expected to reach the major flood level (5.00 m) Tuesday evening. The river level may reach around 5.50 metres overnight Wednesday into Thursday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:
Major flooding is possible along the Barcoo River downstream of Isisford.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 7.04 metres and rising, with moderate flooding.
The Barcoo River at Retreat may reach the major flood level (8.00 m) Tuesday evening. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Cooper Creek:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Cooper Creek.
There are no current observations available for the Cooper Creek at Windorah, however based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level and rising.
The Cooper Ck at Windorah (Main Channel) TM may reach the moderate flood level (4.57 m) during Wednesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
