Issued at 4:40 am Friday, 27 February 2026.
HEAVY TO LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL ABOUT THE FAR NORTH AND NORTHEAST. Heavy rainfall spreading to the North West Pastoral on Friday.
Weather Situation
A low pressure system located over the southern Northern Territory is expected to move to the west during Friday. An extremely humid tropical airmass is wrapping around the southern flank of this low, extending into central parts of the state during the next 24 hours. Longer term a trough system over southern SA is likely to interact with the tropical airmass, with the prolonged rain event spreading southwards over the state during the weekend.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the North East Pastoral district, spreading westwards into parts of the North West Pastoral district during Friday. Six hour rainfall totals between 30 and 60 mm are likely. 24 hour rainfall totals between 50 and 90 mm are likely, with isolated totals to 130 mm possible.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is also possible with isolated slow-moving lines of thunderstorms over the far north and northeast this morning. Six hour rainfall totals of around 110 mm are possible.
Conditions are likely to ease over areas around and to the east of Moomba and Birdsville later in the morning.
Areas of heavy rainfall are likely to extend into the weekend and spread southwards across the state.
