FURTHER FLOODING EXPECTED OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS OVER THE MID NORTH, NORTH WEST PASTORAL AND SOUTH EAST DISTRICTS AND MOUNT LOFTY RANGES

Flood Watches are current for parts of the Eastern, Central and Western inland areas of the Northern Territory and far north west of New South Wales. A Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy to locally intense rainfall in parts of the North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral districts.

FLOODING OCCURRING ALONG THE COOPER CREEK AT INNAMINCKA
ELEVATED RIVER LEVELS OCCURRING ALONG THE WARBURTON RIVER
Heavy rainfall over the last few days in the Cullyamurra and Innamincka area has caused local creek level rises at Cullyamurra Waterhole, flooding of the causeway at Innamincka and widespread road closures. Significant creek level rises have been recorded upstream along the Cooper Creek at Nappa Merrie in Queensland and at Cullyamurra Waterhole, where river levels have peaked and falling.
Elevated river levels and rises are also occurring along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole, likely due to a combination of flows arriving from the lower Diamantina River and local rainfall.
Many roads and access tracks are impacted by flooding, in particular river and creek crossings. Transportation and movement of local communities and travellers is likely to be further impacted. Check road conditions before travelling. Conditions are also adversely affect the welfare of livestock.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of north-eastern and central South Australia, and a Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for parts of North East Pastoral district in SA, including the Inland Rivers. Queensland flood warnings are current for the Georgina River, Eyre Creek, Diamantina River and Cooper Creek.

Warburton:
Elevated river levels are occurring along the Warburton River at Poothapootha Waterhole.
Cooper Creek:
Elevated river levels are occurring at Cullyamurra Waterhole, with river levels around 8.00 metres above the Innamincka causeway and falling as of Thursday morning.

for Heavy, Locally Intense Rainfall

for parts of North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral districts.

HEAVY TO LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL ABOUT THE NORTHEAST

Weather Situation
A low pressure system located over the southern Northern Territory is expected to begin moving to the west today and Friday. An extremely humid tropical airmass wrapping around the southern flank of this low over northeastern parts of South Australia will spread to west in the next 24 hours as the low moves west.
Longer term a trough system over southern SA is likely to interact with the tropical airmass, with the prolonged rain event spreading southwards over the state.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for parts of the North East Pastoral during through today, spreading into eastern parts of the North West Pastoral district overnight and Friday morning. Six hour rainfall totals between 30 and 60 mm are likely. 24 hour rainfall totals between 50 and 90 mm are likely, with isolated totals to 130 mm possible.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is also possible with isolated slow-moving lines of thunderstorms over the far northeast, most likely from this evening and overnight to Friday morning. Six hour rainfall totals of around 110 mm are possible.
Conditions are likely to ease to the east of the Birdsville Track overnight into Friday morning.
Areas of heavy rainfall are likely to extend into the weekend and spread southwards across the state.

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
