Severe Weather Warning
for Heavy, Locally Intense Rainfall
for parts of North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral districts.
Issued at 11:04 am Sunday, 8 February 2026.
HEAVY TO LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL ABOUT NORTHERN PARTS OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Weather Situation
A humid tropical airmass lingers over northern parts of South Australia. Isolated heavy falls currently confined to the North West Pastoral are expected to become more widespread from this evening as an upper trough approaches the area. Rainfall may become intense from around sunrise on Monday.
HEAVY, LOCALLY INTENSE RAINFALL for the following areas:
North West Pastoral and North East Pastoral
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is ongoing in parts of the North West Pastoral. These conditions are expected to spread to the North East Pastoral from this evening. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm are likely, with localised totals up to 80 mm possible with thunderstorm activity.
Locally INTENSE RAINFALL which may lead to DANGEROUS AND LIFE-THREATENING FLASH FLOODING is also possible in a sub-area about northern parts of the North East Pastoral from around sunrise on Monday morning. This includes areas around Moomba. These conditions would likely be caused by slow moving, heavy thunderstorms. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 90 and 110 mm are possible.
Conditions should ease in western parts of the warning area by Monday afternoon, before easing more broadly by Monday night.
Flood warnings are current for the far northeast of the state. Please refer to https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts
Flash flooding may make roads impassable through northeastern parts of the state.
Locations which may be affected include Marla, Moomba, Oodnadatta, Innamincka, Dalhousie Springs and the Simpson Desert Conservation Park.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water;
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains;
* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm ACDT Sunday.
