for Damaging Winds
for King Island, Furneaux Islands, Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands Forecast Districts.

Damaging winds persisting in the wake of a vigorous cold front crossing Tasmania.
Weather Situation
A vigorous frontal system moved across Tasmania resulting in widespread damaging winds, particularly with showers and thunderstorms. The risk of damaging winds remains about much of the state, however this is expected to gradually ease overnight into Saturday.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
King Island, Furneaux Islands, Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands
For NORTHEASTERN, CENTRAL and SOUTHWESTERN TASMANIA: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 110 km/h are likely today, easing early Saturday morning.
For the REMAINDER including HOBART and LAUNCESTON: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are likely, easing during Friday evening.
For elevated and exposed areas, DAMAGING WINDS may average 70 to 80 km/h with peak gusts around 120 km/h.
Winds across the state are expected to ease below warning thresholds early Saturday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Devonport, Burnie, Launceston, St Helens, Swansea, Strahan, New Norfolk, Hobart, Currie, Smithton, Oatlands and Scottsdale.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEDT Friday.
