Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for North East and East Coast Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:56 am Thursday, 13 November 2025.
Damaging winds expected over northeastern areas today before easing during this afternoon.
Weather Situation
Vigorous northwesterly winds persist ahead of a cold front crossing the state today. These winds are forecast to ease during the afternoon after the front has passed.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
North East and East Coast
Strong to DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are likely over parts of the North East and East Coast district today.
Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds during Thursday afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Swansea, Bicheno, Fingal and Scamander.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and Central Plateau districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
Significant wind observations to 10:50 am AEDT include:
104 km/h wind gust was recorded at Larapuna (Eddystone Point) at 10:46 am.
Cancellation for the following areas:
South East,Upper Derwent Valley,Central Plateau,Western
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEDT Thursday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
