Frederick Henry Bay and Norfolk Bay, Storm Bay, Channel, South West Lakes, Banks Strait and Franklin Sound, East of Flinders Island, Lower East Coast, South East Coast, South West Coast and Central West Coast
Strong Wind Warning for the following areas:
Derwent Estuary, Central Plateau Lakes, Far North West Coast, Central North Coast and Upper East Coast

Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and parts of North East, North West Coast and Central North Forecast Districts.

Issued at 5:08 pm Monday, 20 October 2025.

Damaging winds continuing this evening, easing later tonight.

Weather Situation
Vigorous westerly winds are expected to continue this evening as a cold front crosses the state, easing during the evening.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands
For ELEVATED TERRAIN and EXPOSED FAR SOUTHERN TASMANIA: DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts around 115 km/h are occurring and expected to continue into the evening.
For the REMAINDER including Hobart: DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h remain possible during the early evening.
Winds across the state are expected to ease below warning thresholds by the late evening.
Locations which may be affected include Hobart, New Norfolk, Oatlands, Bothwell, Geeveston and Dover.
157 km/h WIND GUST WAS RECORDED AT MAATSUYKER ISLAND AT 3:15 pm.
113 km/h wind gust was recorded at Hartz Mountain at 3:39 pm.
131 km/h wind gust was recorded at kunanyi (Mt Wellington) at 2:18 pm.
131 km/h wind gust was recorded at Scotts Peak Dam at 1:22 pm.
91 km/h wind gust was recorded in Hobart (Ellerslie Road) at 3:00 pm.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEDT Monday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
