Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for East Coast, Central Plateau and parts of Upper Derwent Valley, North East, Central North and Midlands Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:56 am Thursday, 4 December 2025.
Damaging wind gusts developing over central and eastern Tasmania in the next few hours.
Weather Situation
A cold front near the west coast of Tasmania will move eastwards across the state today, producing a vigorous west to northwesterly winds over central and eastern parts. The cold front will move further eastwards into the Tasman Sea this evening with winds easing in its wake.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Upper Derwent Valley, North East, East Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands
Strong northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 100 km/h are likely to develop in the next hour or two over central and eastern parts of the state and continue through the afternoon.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds this afternoon for central parts of the state and late this evening in the east.
Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, Bicheno, Bothwell, Fingal and Lake St Clair.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the North West Coast district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

North West Coast
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEDT Thursday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
